James Keating is founder, chairman and CEO of The Keating Group, holding company for the following entities: Keating Companies; tKg Wholesale Brokerage; tKg On!ine; WholeSource and; Keating Capital.
Since its founding in 2004, tKg Wholesale Brokerage has grown to become one of the largest independently owned wholesale brokerage firms in the country. tKg Wholesale Brokerage offers products through its Casualty, Workers’ Compensation, Small Business, Professional Liability and Transportation divisions. It has offices in seven states and serves clients in all 50 states.
tKg On!ine was formed to provide the retail agent community with an online quote, bind, and issue system for the traditional small business products, without interrupting an agency’s current process flow. By utilizing new proprietary technology, tKg On!ine is able to streamline and simplify the full brokerage process from end-to-end, requiring limited user interaction, greatly reducing redundant data input, and creating a process-efficient result for agencies and carriers alike.
WholeSource, LLC, a technology vendor arm, provides technology services and support to the wholesale and retail brokerage industries. WholeSource, has developed a state of the art patent-pending technology platform designed to increase productivity and efficiency through automation and centralization of daily workflows, document retention, accounting, email, and both production and executive reporting.
Keating Capital was formed in 2014 to manage the investment assets of the organization.
Mr. Keating is active in his community, contributing to a number of political and charitable organizations with a heavy focus on veterans’ support and limited government initiatives. He serves on the Board of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Prosper, an organization dedicated to championing and defending entrepreneurship. Mr. Keating writes and comments frequently on the wholesale brokerage markets. He has been published at both the local and national level.
Mr. Keating holds both the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter and Associate in Reinsurance designations. He received a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas and a B.A. in history from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 2015, Mr. Keating was appointed by the Governor of the State of Arizona to the Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Fund Board.
He resides in Phoenix with his wife Caroline and his two sons, Jack and Hank.
Donald Fleming joined tKg in May 2006 as the company’s Chief Information Officer. In this role, he is responsible for all aspects of the company’s investment, development, and utilization of information and technology to create a competitive business advantage within the insurance world.
Mr. Fleming applies the engineering disciplines he learned while a student in Penn State’s Mechanical Engineering Technology program. After college, Mr. Fleming quickly transitioned into software development when he assisted American Express in their development of global platform software program designed to manage over 600 offices in 13 countries worldwide. He was also a member of the AXI team that developed and supported a corporate travel product in conjunction with Microsoft which later was used as the basis for the software utilized by Expedia.com.
In 2001, Mr. Fleming moved to Bank of America as a VP within the Consumer Risk Operations Group with responsibilities including software development for use by 5,000+ associates and mitigating approximately $2BB in losses. Through creative and innovative use of technology, by the end of his tenure the software developed by his team reached more than 10,000 associates throughout the U.S. while the required development and support costs were reduced by more than 50%.
Mr. Fleming has expertise in multiple roles from both a business and technology perspective including large-scale database implementations and network connectivity. In addition, he holds a six-sigma green belt certification with subject matter proficiency in procedural and operational efficiency.
Mark Meury joined tKg in January 2011 as the company’s Chief Technology Officer. Prior to that Mark had been working on a contract basis for tKg for a number of years.
Mark’s career has been exclusively focused within the software industry. Upon graduation from Westminster College, Mark became a highly accomplished consultant to many Fortune 500 companies such as American Express, Bank of America, PNC Bank, Radiant Systems, and First Data.
As a senior software engineer at First Data Corp formerly Concord EFS, Mark contributed to developing EFSnet, a large scale electronic financial payment processor via the public internet for both point-of-sale and e-commerce merchants as an alternate to private frame, satellite, and dial-up communications. Used today by the IRS, McDonalds, Subway, PETCO, Vans, Oracle and many other Tier 1 companies, EFSnet processes over $18BB annually.
In 2002 Mark founded NGP Networks, an IT company that specializes in bridging the gap between virtual and physical networks. Prior to starting NGP Networks, Mark was a Vice President at Bank of America in the Card Services Division where he contributed to developing the operational reporting infrastructure to support over 120 million card holders and $250BB in annual transaction volumes.
His primary role at tKg is to ensure that the company delivers what its Producers, Clients and Markets need in respect of its service, technology and client solutions requirements. Mark graduated from Westminster College in 1997 with a degree in Computer Science.
Denise Natoli is Executive Assistant to our CEO as well as Human Resources Manager for tKg.
Denise has worked as a professional in human resources for over 13 years, including generalist positions in the global payment industry, specialty property/casualty insurance and international leasing. As a MARCOM representative for a nationwide telecommunications company, she managed their national tradeshow program (telecom, healthcare and corrections) and collateral materials among other things. Denise has also served in the role of executive assistant to the top executives of these industry leaders.
Denise is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) by the Society for Human Resources Management and is an active member of SHRM (Society of Human Resources Management) as well as VSHRA (Valley of the Sun Human Resources Association).
Geoff is an accomplished accountant and financial analyst with more than 14 years experience in the real estate development and hedge fund industries. He is skilled in financial modeling and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and financial statement preparation. Prior to joining tKg, he managed the day-to-day accounting operations and controls of several large commercial real estate developments, as well as three multi-million dollar hedge funds.
Geoff is a Certified Public Accountant and graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Arizona.
Tanaaz Wheeler is Director of Regulatory Compliance. Tanaaz is responsible for managing tKg’s Claims; Tax Filings; Retailer, Carrier and Carrier Contingency Agreements; Vendor Contracts and Lease Agreements. She is also responsible for keeping the company in compliance with all laws and statutory changes affecting tKg.
Previously Tanaaz held the position of Dispute Resolution Manager, Compliance Officer for Tenet Healthcare, one of the country’s largest Healthcare Providers, as well as Staff Counsel for Best Western International, Inc. in Phoenix. She also has significant courtroom experience having worked as a Prosecutor in the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office in Prescott, AZ where she was recognized as Arizona Juvenile Court Prosecutor of the Year.
Tanaaz has an Associate of Science Degree from Fullerton College and received her Juris-Doctorate from Western State University College of Law (both in Fullerton, CA). Tanaaz is currently a member of the State Bar of Arizona.
tKg Workers’ Compensation
Todd Pollock joined tKg in October 2008 as Managing Partner, tKg Comp.
As President of tKg Comp, Todd is responsible for the overall development, management, and growth of the tKg Workers’ Compensation Division.
Todd began his career in 1995 with EBI Companies as a Sales Underwriter before being promoted to Sales and Underwriting Division Manager. In 2001, Todd joined a regional broker of workers’ compensation insurance as Sales Executive where he generated and managed a $30MM nationwide workers’ compensation book giving him complete understanding of state pricing strategies, laws, and regulations. In that role, he was instrumental in creating strategies for business development, marketing plans, agency management and company relations.
Todd is a 1992 graduate of Northeastern University with a degree in Business Administration. He has fifteen years of property & casualty experience, specializing in workers’ compensation.
He resides in Rhode Island with his wife and two daughters.
Dana began his career with the Boston Celtics as a Community Relations Intern assisting in charitable donations, community events, and game day operations. Shortly thereafter, in 2009, he joined the tKg Workers Comp Division as an Account Manager. He has been instrumental in the growth of the division in terms of underwriting, service, and sales. Dana was promoted to Broker in 2014 and is writing Workers Comp nationwide.
Dana holds a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Fitchburg State University. He lives in Westford, MA where he enjoys spending time with his wife, Jennifer, and son, Owen.
tKg Casualty West
David Senescu established tKg’s West Coast operations in 2011 to expand the Brokerage Casualty Department to a National platform. David started his insurance career 10 years ago as a retail agent placing complex construction risks. He later moved on to become a wholesale broker utilizing his retail experience to assist with his construction placements.
During the past 8 years, David has evolved his expertise to other industries, including Manufacturing, Environmental, Hospitality, and Real Estate. He remains committed to working with independent agents to develop specialized solutions for their tough to place risks.
David is a veteran of the U.S. Navy who holds a Commercial Pilots License with thousands of hours of experience.
Klayton Caldiero opened the Pasadena, CA office for tKg in 2013 to expand the Brokerage Casualty Department in California. Klayton started his insurance career in 2001 as a retail agent placing complex construction wrap ups and project specific policies for the large regional home builders. He later moved on to become a wholesale broker utilizing his retail experience to assist his agents with construction placements.
Klayton has evolved his expertise to include other industries, including manufacturing, environmental, hospitality, and real estate. He remains committed to assisting independent agents with specialized solutions for their tough to place risks.
Klayton holds a degree in Business with an emphasis on Marketing from California State Polytechnic University of Pomona. He lives in Pasadena, CA where he enjoys hiking in the local mountains and assisting in animal placements and rescues.
For the last 5 years Cal was the Brokerage Manager for MJ Kelly Company in Springfield, Missouri. He also held the positions of Vice President/Broker for Alexander, Morford & Woo and Vice President/Account Executive for Commercial Insurance Underwriters, Inc. Cal was also a Claims Examiner with American National Property and Casualty Insurance.
Cal received his BA in Business Administration and a BA in Economics from Drury University in Springfield. He holds a Property and Casualty Producer’s License and Surplus Lines License, both in the State of Missouri.
tKg Casualty East
Mike McNally joined tKg in October 2004 as one of the first brokers within the organization with a focus on developing strong carrier and agency relationships in property & casualty. Now Mr. McNally heads up our P&C division for the East Coast.
Over the last 10 plus years Mike has developed several areas of expertise in (but not limited to): Construction, Mfg/distribution, Hospitality/Entertainment, Life Sciences/Nutra, Transportation and tough property placements. Our P&C East team is thriving and second to none in the Northeast and continually looking to expand upon that under Mike’s leadership.
Mike graduated from Bentley University where he majored in Marketing and double minored in Business Communications and Psychology. Mike also played for the men’s’ basketball team. He now lives in North Attleboro, MA with his wife Michelle and two children Lucas and Madisyn.
Jason Lukens joined tKg in October 2011 as a Vice President in our Property and Casualty Division. As Vice President, Jason is responsible for the growing the firm’s property and casualty writings.
Jason started his career as a middle market underwriter with The Hartford. After moving on from The Hartford, Jason began in the wholesale world working for a large regional wholesaler based in Connecticut. He has 15 years of wholesale experience working on accounts in the Hospitality, Construction, Environmental, Real Estate and Manufacturing fields.
Jason is a 1994 graduate of Bryant University with a degree in Applied Actuarial Mathematics. He currently resides in Connecticut with his wife and two children.
Mary Byrne joined tKg in November 2014 in the Property and Casualty division. Mary has over 25 years of experience in the areas of Underwriting, Wholesale and Retail Brokerage. Over the past 13 plus years she has worked in the Wholesale arena. Prior to joining tKg, Mary was a Senior Vice President with the AmWins Group in Farmington, CT.
Mary has assisted Retail Brokers in the construction area in the State of NY including NYC. She handles tough to place practice policies as well as project specific. She also has expertise in the Real Estate, Products, Manufacturing, Environmental, Hospitality, Builders Risk, difficult property placements and Transportation Risks.
Mary graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Marketing. Mary also played on the Women’s tennis team. She has a Property and Casualty Producer’s License in the State of New York and CT. She currently resides in Connecticut.
Mark is a 32 year insurance veteran, spending 8 years in underwriting with USF&G and St. Paul respectively and then 8 years in Marketing with Sedgwick, Aon, and Willis. He has a multi-line background, with expertise in Casualty, Property, Automobile, and Professional Liability placements. Mark has extended experience in the Construction, Real Estate, Manufacturing, Hospitality, and Healthcare industries as well. He opened the Peachtree Charlotte office in 2001 and has expertise in account placements all over the United States. His ability to relate as an underwriter, a retail marketing person as well as 16 years in wholesale broker experience can be an added advantage in surplus lines placement.
He resides in Rock Hill, SC with his wife Chloe and their 4 children Samuel, Sophie, Wilson, and Claire. He enjoys spending time with his family, golf, running, Carolina Panthers football, and Haiti mission work.
Brian Sullivan joined tKg in June of 2008, immediately following his graduation from Endicott College. After working as an Account Executive and New Business Underwriter in tKg’s small business unit, Brian has been a broker in our Property and Casualty Division since 2011 where he has come to specialize in Construction, Manufacturing, Hospitality, Environmental, Real Estate and Transportation.
While at Endicott, Brian majored in Marketing, minored in Communications and served as a captain on the Men’s Ice Hockey team. He currently resides in Boston, MA where he stays busy with outdoor activities, attending sporting events and sampling new restaurants.
tKg Professional Liability
John Grise joined tKg in June of 2011 to propel the department to the next level. John brings to the team 17 years of experience as a professional liability broker. The areas of expertise include all varieties of professional liability with concentrations in the following areas: Technology, Privacy, Architects and Engineers, Management Liability, Miscellaneous E&O, Real Estate E&O, Allied Health, Financial Institutions.
John resides in Pepperell, MA where he is involved in coaching youth basketball as well as skiing and golfing with his teenage daughter.
Having started his career while still in high school working for a family run agency, he moved to the carrier side as a Marketing Representative for Philadelphia Insurance Companies. He now brings his diverse expertise to tKg where he is focused on all aspects of management and professional liability.
Blake has spent his entire career in Connecticut where he resides. When he is not reading policy forms he enjoys playing golf, hiking and cooking.
With over 10 years of insurance experience, Matt spent the last 6 years with Gallo | Thomas Insurance Agency, Inc. based in RI. During his time at Gallo | Thomas, Matt became the Managing Director of their professional liability division focusing on the sale and placement of professional, management, and cyber liability. Matt presently holds the Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC) designation and is the recipient of the 2016 40 Under Forty award from Providence Business News.
Matt resides in Coventry, RI with his wife Laura and their daughter Emma. During his free time he enjoys playing golf as well as volunteering on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Warwick.
tKg Small Business/Underwriting
Eric Convery is Vice President of tKg Small Business. Prior to joining tKg, Mr. Convery was the Western Regional Manager, for a national MGA. Eric managed 4 offices and led a team of 35 in expanding their MGA operations. Under his leadership, the entire team achieved double digit growth year over year and he played a vital role in opening 2 additional offices for the company.
Eric started his insurance career in 2006. He specializes in contractors, manufacturers, property owners, hospitality, and hard to place risks. He is fully committed to developing our tKg Small Business Division on a national platform, while never wavering on exceptional client first service and solution underwriting.
Eric earned a marketing degree from California State University Northridge. He resides in Lake Oswego, Oregon with his wife, two daughters and son. He enjoys spending time with his family, along with playing golf and ice hockey.
LaDonna joined the tKg Family in August 2011, in 2013 she opened the Missouri office for tKg and moved the Small Business processing to that location; and she also opened the Plano, TX, office in the fall of the same year.
LaDonna has over 15 years experience in the Insurance Industry beginning in personal lines then moving over to the commercial lines industry. She has diverse experience working as a marketing representative, an underwriter on the carrier side, and her current position in the day to day operations of the Small Business Unit and underwriting accounts. LaDonna is very committed to growing tKg Small Business and helping valued agents with hard to place risks as well as finding the right carriers to partner with to add value to agent relationships.
LaDonna resides in Springfield, MO where she enjoys traveling whether it is to a St. Louis Cardinals game, Arkansas Razorback football game or to the Caribbean to scuba dive.
Vickie Goodin joined tKg in June 2016 as a Senior Underwriter in Small Business to help expand our brand in the Midwest. Having worked in the industry for decades, Vickie has extensive experience as a commercial underwriter.
For the last 8 years, she was the Underwriting Manager with a large regional MGA in Springfield. Vickie is committed to providing excellent customer service to agents, bringing new carrier relationships, and growing tKg’s Small Business department.
Vickie resides in Strafford, MO where she enjoys the St. Louis Cardinals and spending time with family.
Born and raised in Oregon, Mike is a proud native of the Pacific Northwest. Prior to his insurance career, he spent extensive time living abroad in China, Peru, Mexico, and Brazil where he gained fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, and Mandarin-Chinese.
Mike holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Washington. He also earned his Associate in Commercial Underwriting(AU) from American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.
Mike’s personal interests include mountaineering, rock climbing, snowboarding, and travel.
Jason began his career in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster. Shortly thereafter he joined a commercial wholesaler earning his AU, Associate Commercial Underwriting designation.
Jason’s success in growing a profitable book of commercial E&S business has been heavily driven by his dedication to Relationship Focused Marketing. He specializes in Contractors, Manufacturers, Property Owners, Hospitality, and hard to place risks.
Jason holds a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Oregon State University. When not working he enjoys golf, snowboarding, cooking, and hiking. He resides in Portland with his wife and an energetic dog.
Wanda comes to tKg Wholesale Brokerage with 15 years of experience in the insurance industry. She spent 9 years working the the retail environment within independent agency offices where she wrote business for primarily the admitted markets and obtained her Georgia Property & Casualty license. For the last 6 years, she worked in a MGA/wholesale agency office in the Southeast. She has extensive knowledge of working with 11 brokerage contract carriers/underwriters with binding authority, for Commercial P&C small business. She has extensive management and training experience.
Wanda is goal oriented and enjoys working closely with her clients to better understand their business needs to assist them in growing their business. She strives to provide excellent customer service relationships and team building within all of her relationships.
Prior to joining tKg, Mr. Havermann was Senior Vice President, Transportation Broker, for RT Specialty, formerly Westrope. At RT Specialty, Mr. Havermann was the team leader charged with growing the Transportation division in Kansas City, Missouri. He most recently managed RT’s Transportation Division in Kansas City, where he guided the division through a period of tremendous growth.
Mr. Havermann started his insurance career in 1994 with InterCargo Insurance Company in Schaumburg, Illinois, and his career achievements included positions at TRS Insurance Services and WE Love and Associates. He holds a BSBA from Roosevelt University and the designation of Associate in Risk Management from the Insurance School of Chicago.
Mr. Havermann resides in Parkville, Missouri with his wife and two sons.
